Overview
The shipping rate calculator on the customer dashboard provides results based on the rate configured for the given origin, destination and weight. If the volumetric weight more the actual shipment weight specified by the customer then the rates will be shown for volumetric weight instead of actual weight. The shipping rates are calculated using a weight-to-volume ratio which considers only volume and not weight of shipments. This is done to facilitate accurate calculation of shipping costs for a given volume and weight of your ordered shipment.
The following types of weights can be used:
1) Actual Weight: The customer specified actual shipment weight as per their requirements.
2) Volumetric Weight: Volumetric weight is calculated by adding up all contents of shipment and multiplied with volume unit (cc). This enables to calculate shipping rates based on volumetric measurement instead of actual measurement.

Rate Calculator
The shipping rate calculator can be used to calculate shipping costs for an order in a number of different scenarios:
1. Determining your maximum order price. This is useful if you have a discount code that allows you to offer a discount on an order that would otherwise exceed your base rate.
2. Determining your minimum order amount. This is useful if your preferred supplier offers a flat rate or fixed-price deal where they do not allow any discounts or volume discounts applied against their base rate.
3. Calculating a margin over cost (MOC). This is used when you are offering multiple products as part of an order and need to ensure that you cover all costs associated with shipping them together, even if some items are sold at full price while others are sold at a discount.
